History

Bethel Ranch Sign

In 1960, six acres of land was purchased in Hobe Sound, Florida to open a retirement home for missionaries and other Christian Workers, and provide temporary housing for missionaries on furlough. Today the property still operates as a missionary community, providing affordable housing for local missionaries.

Incorporated in 1961 by Reverend William Stelpstra, Anna Stelpstra and others, World for Christ Crusade, Inc. tasked itself to reach those in need of the saving touch of Jesus Christ and to have Him become the Lord of their lives. This was accomplished through preaching the Gospel and singing throughout the country in old time revival meetings. In 1963, the organization purchased a home in Paterson, N.J. and opened Bethel Children’s Home for boys 9-15 years old. Some dozens of boys were afforded safe housing in a supportive Christian atmosphere where Bible study and prayer were added to their regular school studies. Several years later the organization purchased 20 acres in West Milford, N.J. and moved the boys out of the city and into the country. Daily chores of gardening and animal care were added to the boy’s schedule, adding to their sense of accomplishment and belonging.

Over the years, the boy’s home transitioned into men’s housing. Several other homes were added where more homeless persons could live in a safe, clean environment. They receive daily assistance with basic needs, such as laundry, meals and supervision. Most importantly, the residents are afforded spiritual guidance through on site Church Services and Pastoral advice.

Today, the heart of World for Christ Ministries, housing needy people, is continued at Bethel Ranch in West Milford, N.J. and Fellowship House in Bloomfield, N.J. where we house some 64 people. These two homes not only provide a safe haven for the homeless, but Christian principles for daily living. The goal is to have each resident come to saving faith in Jesus Christ, through Chapel Services, daily personal contact, and encouragement.

Over the years God provided the opportunity for the organization to support missionary work to India and St. Lucia. Through several native Indian missionary workers, World for Christ has supported medical ministries and most recently the training and support of more native Indian missionaries. These young men literally put their lives on the line for Christ each day as they faithfully preach the Gospel.

In St. Lucia, God provided 9 acres of property where a mission home was established to bring the Gospel and humanitarian assistance to local residents. Simple things such as clothes, shoes and food are provided, all while the Gospel is presented through Bible Studies and Sunday School-like lessons.

God has also provided a retreat center at the heart of the Jersey Shore, the Ocean Pride Retreat. This retreat provides an affordable break for Pastors, missionaries, and other Christian Workers right on the ocean front, giving them time away from the hectic schedule of life and ministry.
